What is Reiki?
Reiki pronounced "Ray-kee", is Japanese for "Universal Life Force Energy". It is a gentle but powerful, non-invasive natural energy therapy. It involves the channelling of external energy via the hands of a qualified practitioner to the recipient. The recipient remains fully clothed whilst the practitioner rests their hands in various positions around the body.
Reiki's roots date back approximately 2,500 years to the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. Dr Usui, a Japanese scholar, rediscovered Reiki in the late 19th century.
Life force energy can become blocked within the body for numerous reasons, such as emotional problems, physical ailments or work related stress. Reiki treatments will start to remove such blocks and re-balance the natural flow of energy.
Reiki is complementary to other orthodox or alternative therapies and is not linked to any faith or belief. It is simply a transfer of energy, which balances the mind, body and spirit.
